Deep Pour Epoxy Resin

ProGlas 1105 Deep Pour Epoxy Resin is a 100% solids, high versatile material commonly used for creating stunning, glossy crystal clear castings. Great for river tables, countertops, figurines and art pieces. It can be poured up to 2" thick per layer and is food safe

Proglas 1105 has been formulated for improved UV resistance to reduce yellowing and surface degradation from UV exposure.

**Not recommended in freezing climates due to possibility of de-lamination.

Procedure:

  1. Pour 2 parts by volume of the Part A and one Part B into the graduated cups. (If the resin comes out more like molasses than syrup, the resin is too cold.)
  2. Mix the resin with a stir stick. Stir steadily, scraping the sides and bottom. The resin will appear hazy but will clear up after 3 or 4 minutes.
  3. Apply the Seal Coat (not necessary for some surfaces): Pour some 1:1 table top epoxy resin on the surface (you do not want to use the Deep Pour for this) and spread it around with a foam brush or squeegee until a thin layer covers the whole surface. Allow the resin to cure for 4 hours before the flood coat is added. The seal coat will prevent most bubbles from forming during the flood stage.
  4. Apply the Flood Coat: Pour the mixed resin down the length of the surface. The resin will self-level and tools are not required. Allow the resin to run down the sides. Any drips that form along the bottom edge can be removed after the resin has cured. Flood coat can be up to 2” thick. 
  5. Eliminating Air Bubbles: Once the flood coat has settled into place, take a torch or heat gun and wave the tool 6 to 8 inches above the surface. The bubbles will instantly start to pop. Repeat the process until all bubbles are gone. With Deep Pour, though, you typically don't get many air bubbles.
  6. Keep the room between 75 to 80 degrees during the curing process. It will take about 48-72 hours for the resin to become tack free, but full cure isn’t complete for another few weeks. If the temperature falls below 75 degrees, the cure time will lengthen. If too cold, the resin may never fully harden.

Question: Can this epoxy resin be used to create live edge tables/ river tables?

Answer: Yes. This resin works great for river tables.


Question: How thick of a pour can I do at once?

Answer: Recommended pour thickness is up to 2”. Do not do more than 2”.


Question: Is this a 2:1 epoxy resin mix ratio?

Answer: Yes. It is 2:1 by volume. Two parts A to one part B.


Question: How do I get rid of air bubbles?

Answer: Deep Pour does not usually generate many air bubbles but a heat gun or torch can be used to eliminate any air bubbles that do arise.


Question: Do I need to wear a mask when working with this resin?

Answer: It is not necessary but it is definitely ok to wear a mask when working with this resin. It has a slight odor.


Question: How long does it take to dry fully with a flood coat?

Answer: It takes 48-72 hours to dry to the touch, but full cure takes a few weeks. I would not place anything on the recently flooded piece for atleast 3 weeks.


Question: How will this epoxy work on a table outside?

Answer: The resin does have UV inhibitors but will eventually yellow if left outdoors. This is the same with any epoxy resin out there. You can clear coat it with an automotive UV protected clear coat to prevent it from yellowing.


Question: How long does this need to stay in the mold when making a river table?

Answer: As long as it is hard and not sticky it can be taken out of the mold. Do not put anything on the surface for a few weeks.


Question: Will this product work in 65 degrees?

Answer: It will take longer to set up and harden at that temperature than it would at 90 degrees or higher. It will eventually set up and cure at 65 degrees.


Question: For scratch resistance, can I top it with polyurethane?

Answer: Yes. Just be sure to rough up the surface first.


Question: What happens if the product freezes during shipping?

Answer: The temperature of the product will need to be brought back up to around 80 F before using. If crystals formed, place the jug in a warm water bath until they disappear and the resin is warmed to 80F.


Question: Does this resin have an odor?

Answer: Yes. It has a slight odor.


Question: Is there any way to thin the material?

Answer: It is not recommended to thin the epoxy resin.


Question: Is this epoxy FDA approved?

Answer: It is food safe.


Question: Is this product VOC free?

Answer: Yes, it is VOC free.
